Tenerife January 2010 We have been to the beautiful island of Tenerife a few times and put in a few dives. Tenerife is very well suited for divers who want a non-diving holiday with a couple of dives put in. The island has much to offer in terms of beautiful and dramatic landscapes. The people are very friendly and the price level very reasonable. Above water, we would recommend a visit to Mount Teide, Masca, Teno Alto, Punta Teno and just visit a small village and have a small meal on a Tapas bar. If you want a 100% diving holiday. Don't worry. It has much to offer under the surface. We are not experts but have put in a few dives in the south and in the Los Gigantes area. If you include both areas on your itinerary, you could expect to encounter tiger morays, stingrays en masse, eagle rays, big schools of roncadores, octopus, nudibranchs and beautiful underwater scenery. Tenerife is a volcanic island and you won't find colourfull corals. But the dramatic cliff and rock formations certainly compensates for that. In January the watertemperature was around 20 degrees. So protect yourself accordingly. Outstanding divesites are Palm Mar Cave, El Puertito with its friendly turtles and in Los Gigantes Punta Blanca and Barranco Seco deserves a special mention. We dived with aqua marina divecenter in Los Christianos. We very highly recommend them. In terms of facilities, safety, professionalism and friendliness they set a very high standard. A special thank you to our german guide Ines. In Los Gigantes we dived with Los Gigantes Divecenter (our 3'rd visit). It is also very nice. The facilities are a bit to the basic side, but safety, friendliness and the diving more than compensates. Also recommended.
