Bali We have been to the wonderfull island of the Gods 4 times. We very much enjoy the diversity of the diving and also the country. We have dived on the North Coast in tulamben with Tulamben Wreck Divers and mostly on Lembongan with the excellent World Diving. Tulamben is excellent for the macrolife, calm sea and nice warm water. Tulamben is probably most famous for the Liberty Wreck which certainly is worth quite a few dives at different times of the day. A school of bumphead parrotfish resides there and will probably be seen early in the morning and late in the day. Otherwise the Coralgarden, the drop off and Seraya for the macrolife are very good sites. Lembongan/Nusa Penida is more diverse and phrone to currents and coldwater upwellings in the channels and on the south coast. However the diving is excellent with the possibility of encounters with Manta Rays and Mola Mola in the right season. For the Manta Rays my preferred time is April/May around full moon, where I have had my best experiences. For the Mola Mola, the primary season is from August till October, but they can certainly be spotted at other times, so keep your eyes open. I think that Crystal Bay, Blue Corner, Toyapakeh Bay and Manta Point are worldclass divesites on their good days. Be aware that Blue Corner can be a difficult dive, so don't go there if you are inexperienced. If you go to Lembongan I highly recommend staying at Pondok Baruna and dive with World Diving. Stay for at least a week and get into that special Lembongan feeling. We'll be back.
Lembongan/Ceningan/Nusa Penida Lembongan is a small island east of Bali. You can go there by local boat from Sanur which is our preferred option. On Lembongan the local people is very much involved with see weed farming. We think that one of the charms of Lembongan is, that it is not at all destroyed by mass tourism. There are quite a few options for accomodation. We always stay at Pondok Baruna which is right next to the divecenter. It is fairly basic but nice and clean. They have recently built some new more upmarket rooms which are very nice. Rent a bike or a motorbike and tour the island. Go to Dream Beach, see the mangroves in the north and cross the small bridge to Ceningan. From the south west point og Ceningan there are some really nice views. If you go to Nusa Penida you will find an island with no tourism. Take a trip to the highlands and enjoy the views. We didn't have time to go to the south coast, but it certainly have potential for some beautiful scenery's along the rugged coastline. Who knows you might spot a feeding Manta Ray from the top of the cliffs.
